Title

CARICA PAPAYA LEAVES EXTRACT AS AN IMMUNOMODULATOR

Abstract

Carica papaya is also known to as pawpaw, is a tropical fruit- bearing tree in the Caricaceae family. Papaya is one of the world's most extensively grown crops. Its fruits, seeds, and leaves are widely utilized in cooking and traditional medicine. Papaya leaf extract, tea, and juices are extensively used to cure ailments and promote health. Capsules are used as formulation and are prepared by using plant extracts i.e., Carica papaya and Glycyrrhiza glabra and Tinospora cordifolia. These capsules were prepared by using wet granulation method. the extract of leaves of Carica papaya and Glycyrrhiza glabra and Tinospora cordifolia were used for making herbal capsules. Extracts of leaves of Carica papaya was obtained by cold extraction and through maceration method. Both extracts were dried and mixed. These extracts were then impregnated with the excipients like diluents, binding agents, super disintegrating agent, lubricants, etc. to make granules. These granules were then evaluated by using various parameters like Angle of repose, tapped density, bulk density, Carr’s Index, Hausner’s Ratio and void volume. Then the granules are filled in the empty gelatin capsules Evaluation of the capsules (weight variation test, content uniformity test, dissolution test, disintegration test, bloom test) are performed. Carica papaya leaf extract (CPLE) are believed to have some role in improving platelets. Papaya leaves have been used by many patients due to their perceived beneficial effect on platelet count. Extract of Carica papaya leaves showed the presence of tannins, alkaloids, glycosides steroids, proteins, flavonoids, carbohydrates, etc., after the phytochemical screening, all of which are useful chemical ingredients responsible for a variety of pharmacological effects.
