Title

Effectiveness of Ganitha Kalika Andolana (G.K.A) on Teachers’ Attitude towards Ganitha Kalika Andolana and Mathematics Achievement of Primary School Students

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of Ganitha Kalika Andolna on primary school students Mathematics achievement and teachers attitude towards this Program in Chamarajanagara taluk. Seventy Government primary schools were randomly selected as the sample of the study and seventy teachers’ handling mathematics subject for 4th and 5th standard in these selected schools were included in the sample. Also hundred students from these schools formed the sample of the study. Teachers’ attitude towards Ganitha Kalika Andolna scale developed by the researcher was used to collect data from the teachers. The previous semester scores in mathematics subject was considered for mathematics achievement of the students. Pearson product moment correlation was employed to find out the relationship and‘t’ test was employed to find out the difference between different categories .The study found that there is a positive relationship between teachers attitude towards Ganitha Kalika Andolna and mathematics achievement of students. Most of the teachers’ were found to possess less favorable attitude towards Ganitha Kalika Andolna. No significant difference was found between male and female teachers’ attitude towards Ganitha Kalika Andolna and urban and rural school teachers. However a significant difference was existed between less experienced teachers’ and high experienced teachers’. A significant difference was found w.r.t mathematics achievement of the students before and after the implementation of Ganitha kalika andolana Program. Hence it was concluded that Ganitha kalika andolana is effective in enhancing Mathematics achievement of students of primary schools.
