Abstract: The information needs of people are changing rapidly. Thus traditional libraries need to change their approach toward the digital environment to cope with the growing desires of users. The product of this study may be supportive of gaining knowledge about the web content of different Research Institutes in West Bengal and recognizing the problems and solutions The study may also be useful in making suitable plans and policies to develop existing websites with their web pages to fulfill the changing information needs of users. Purpose: The key purpose of the study is to discover the present status of different Research Institutions' websites in West Bengal. Objectives: The primary aims of the research are to investigate the present scenario with the Indian ranking of Research Institution's websites in West Bengal, to determine the preferred domain names, the number of web pages, link pages, self-link pages, and external link pages by selected institutions along with global traffic rank status of page views. Methodology: The present study was based on a descriptive and analytical survey and an observation method. The study is limited to 24 Research Institutions in West Bengal. To complete the study primary data were collected from various search engines and Webometric tools were utilized such as a webpage analyzer, site-link-analyzer, backlink watch, and pre-checker. Collected data were tabulated and scrutinized with the use of Microsoft Excel. Findings: Research institutes in West Bengal are primarily concentrated in Kolkata, with 18 out of 24 located there. They span various districts including Murshidabad, Bardhhaman, and North 24 Parganas. Their establishment dates vary: 6 institutes predate 1947, 14 were established between 1947 and 1999, and 4 were founded between 2000 and 2022. These institutes operate under 5 domains, with 'res. in' being the most common (10 institutes), followed by 'ac. in' (5 institutes) and '.org' (4 institutes). This research found the link structure and webpage ranking of every research institute listed in this study.
