Title

Development and Validation of Koshtha Assessment Questionnaire based on Ayurveda and Modern parameters

Abstract

Introduction: Ayurveda is founded on the concept of Doshas, which is the equilibrium of the three fundamental elements, the dosha of the human body. When these Doshas are in balance, they are called health. When they are in imbalance, they are called diseases. The balance of these three fundamental substances is responsible for good health. The imbalance of Doshas can lead to the decay of the body or death. There are many physiological entities that are responsible for good health such as Agni, Ama, Oja, and Koshtha. The Koshtha can be defined in two ways. One is the nature of the digestive tract, which is the motility of the intestine and the movement of food and stool in the alimentary canal. The other is a hollow cavity, which has visceral organs like the trunk. Material and Method: To assess the Agni, Ama and Oja, the questionnaire is formerly been developed and validated, but there were no similar questionnaires available for the assessment of Koshtha.Considering the significance of the Koshtha assessment in Ayurveda, in this study we've developed and validated the Koshtha assessment questionnaire grounded on Ayurveda and Modern parameters. Results: The final Questionnaire contains nine particulars for assessing 3 Koshtha Krur, Mridu, and Madhyam. Koshtha’s internal consistency ranged from 0.81 to 0.89, good to excellent. This means the internal consistency of the Questionnaire is excellent. Conclusion: The newly designed proforma used for the assessment of Koshtha is statistically valid and reliable and can be used for the assessment of Koshtha of individuals.
