Title

A descriptive study to assess the knowledge on effects of smartphone usage among antenatal women with a view to develop information booklet in a selected hospital, Mumbai

Abstract

Smartphones have ubiquitous in modern society, influencing various aspects of daily life. When it comes to pregnant women, the impact of smartphone usage can be both beneficial and potentially harmful. On the positive side, smartphones offer access to a wealth of information related to pregnancy, allowing omen to track their progress, access prenatal resources, and connect with online communities for support. However, excessive smartphone use during pregnancy may have negative effects. Prolonged screen time can contribute to sedentary behavior, potentially leading to health issues such as gestational diabetes and increased risk of excessive weight gain. Additionally, the blue light emitted by smartphones may disrupt sleep patterns, affecting both the mother and the developing fetus. Moreover, constant connectivity can contribute to heightened stress levels, as pregnant women may feel pressured to stay connected with work or social obligations. This stress, in turn, could impact the overall well-being of the mother and potentially influence the unborn child. Furthermore, there are concerns about the potential impact of smartphone radiation on fetal development.
