Being termed as “seditious literature” by the colonial government, Hind Swaraj or The Self- Rule is a utopian work of MK Gandhi. The paper aims to study the political and spiritual envision of Gandhi, not only for the Indians but to the entire mankind. This text a critique of colonial agenda of modernity. For Gandhi, bringing change in the life of last man is the real definition of Swaraj. Many think that Gandhi was against modernity but he was in true sense a modernist, who has belief in secular ideas which would unite the Hindus & Muslims. His real aim was to transform the society and the individual where each one has its own representation. Through this paper an attempt has been made to understand Gandhi in our present times, where the divide among the society is increasing, be it communal tension, economic disparity, and Education.
