Abstract: The present study aimed at determining the knowledge about menstruation among tribal adolescent girls. The objectives were -to examine the reaction to menarche, awareness of menarche, awareness about organs and hormones responsible for menstruation, and preferred resource for gaining knowledge about menstrual health information. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 120 adolescent girls in the age range between 13 to18 years. The required information was gathered by using self- structured questionnaire. The data was analysed by using number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and F test. The findings showed that higher percentage of the respondents’ reactions to the onset of menarche was filled with discomfort. Higher percentage (64.2%) of the respondents knew about menstruation before attaining menarche and 35.8% of them were not aware. About 25% of them did not know the cause of menstruation and 19.2% of the respondents were ignorant of how menstrual blood forms. About half of the respondents were not aware of the hormones that cause menstruation. The first informants about menstruation were mothers, followed by friends. The results further revealed that most of the respondents had average to inadequate knowledge about menstruation.
