Title

Artisans of Shahpur Jat : Division of Labour, Migration and Working Condition of Artisans in Designer Cloth Making Industry

Abstract

This research article investigates the condition of artisans of designer clothes manufacturing industry of Shahpur Jat area of Delhi by focusing on the aspects of labour division in the production process, migration and their history by making a revisit to the artisanal history of colonial and pre-colonial world of South Asia. After investigation and ethnographic research the problem of low wages and hazardous working conditions of artisans have been analysed in detail. Factors like Migration, Division of Labour came out as factors affecting the whole production process and working condition of migrant artisans
