Reproduction of accurate details of subgingival margins of tooth preparation, is outmost importance while making the impression. Traditionally gingival cords are using for the retraction with or without impregnated with chemical agents. Surgical retraction of the gingival retraction also following in certain clinical situations. Each system having its own advantages and disadvantages. To overcome some of the disadvantages, cordless materials introduced into the dental practice. There are many paste systems are available with many advantages. They are very easy to use, less time consuming, good patient comfort. Of course they are expensive compare with conventional cord systems. Most of the studies are in favour of usage of cardless material for better performance. The retraction system is required after tooth preparation, making impression with conventional impression material or digital impressions and even for the implant prosthesis.
