Title

Ayurveda Meets AI: How NLP is Shaping the Future of Holistic Medicine

Authors

Abstract

Integrating Natural Language Processing (NLP) into Ayurvedic healthcare holds transformative potential for traditional medical practices by enhancing diagnostic accuracy, personalising treatments, and streamlining clinical documentation. Ayurveda, an ancient holistic medical system from India, emphasises a balance between mind, body, and spirit for health and wellness. Despite its global recognition, Ayurveda's extensive knowledge base, often recorded in ancient languages like Sanskrit, presents significant challenges for modern healthcare integration. NLP, a branch of artificial intelligence focused on understanding and processing human language, offers innovative solutions to these challenges. This review explores how NLP can improve diagnostic accuracy by analysing patient records and symptom descriptions to identify patterns and Dosha imbalances. Additionally, NLP-driven tools can enhance patient-practitioner communication through virtual assistants and chatbots, facilitating better data collection and breaking language barriers. Automating clinical documentation using NLP can save time and reduce errors, allowing practitioners to focus more on patient care. Furthermore, NLP can aid in personalising treatments by analysing patient data to create tailored therapeutic plans and mining Ayurvedic texts for valuable insights to support clinical research. However, challenges such as language barriers, data privacy concerns, and the need for technological integration and practitioner training must be addressed to fully realise NLP's potential in Ayurveda.
