The role of women in mainstream development is extremely important. Building a self-reliant society is possible only through the empowerment of women.Atrocities against women are prevalent everywhere, which needs to be addressed through an institutional process. Women's empowerment lies within the broader spectrum of gender equality, which can be understood through a systemic approach.Protection of women's rights is possible through their active participation. Women can help in generating legal awareness and becoming capable of self-employment.The role of women is highly visible in coordination of internal and external resources. NGOs ensure political and economic freedom for women, establish an improved status for them by reducing inequality with men.NGOs have played an influential role in shaping the current global policy framework on women's empowerment and gender equality.NGOs are also leading women's entrepreneurship development programs so that women can achieve economic independence. Some NGOs have also worked on vocational activation programs to enhance their self-esteem, competence and independence.Thus, the contribution of NGOs plays a decisive role in the empowerment of women, thereby strengthening the position of women in the society.
