Title

DIGITAL LITERACY AND ITS ROLE IN REDUCING SOCIAL INEQUALITY

Abstract

Proficiency in using digital tools and technology, known as digital literacy, has become an essential talent in the 21st century. The importance of digital technologies is magnified in the context of social inequality since they have the potential to address disparities in education, employment, and social engagement. This research investigates the influence of digital literacy on reducing social inequality, specifically examining its effects on different socio-economic groups. The study utilises a mixed-methods methodology, integrating quantitative data analysis with qualitative interviews. A comprehensive dataset was gathered from a heterogeneous sample of 1,000 individuals residing in both urban and rural regions. The statistical analysis was conducted on the quantitative data to establish connections between degrees of digital literacy and socio-economic indices. The interviews yielded qualitative data that offered valuable insights into individuals' personal experiences and identified obstacles to achieving digital literacy. The results demonstrate a notable and favourable association between digital literacy and socio-economic progress. Individuals with elevated levels of digital literacy indicated enhanced career prospects, increased earnings, and greater accessibility to education and social services. Moreover, the research found primary obstacles to digital literacy, such as the limited availability of digital devices, inadequate training programmes, and socio-cultural influences. Enhancing chances for marginalised populations is a key benefit of digital literacy in the effort to reduce social inequality. Policy initiatives targeting the enhancement of digital literacy, especially in marginalised groups, have the potential to greatly advance social fairness. The research emphasises the need of extensive digital literacy initiatives that are easily available, all-encompassing, and adaptable to the requirements of various demographics
