Title

The English Language's Journey for India's Sustainable Growth

Abstract

This paper investigates how the English language spread from England to India after Queen Elizabeth- I granted a Royal Charter to "The Governor and Company of Merchants of London, known as The East India Company" on December 30, 1600, facilitating trade with India. Over time, British traders became involved in Indian politics, acting as agents of British imperialism. Administering a diverse country like India, with its myriad religions, languages, dialects, and cultures, was challenging. The major obstacle the British faced was communication: the British did not know Hindi, and the Indians did not know English. This communication gap led to the creation of an educated class in India through the introduction of Western education in English, which helped the British manage trade and administration more effectively. Today, English is crucial globally. It is the language of international communication, essential in administration, bureaucracy, education, science, technology, judiciary, trade, commerce, and overall communication. It is a status symbol for educated youth. The future of India depends on its youth, who can achieve the mission of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' is equipped with comprehensive development programs, where proficiency in English plays a significant role. This article highlights the positive impact of the English language on India's sustainable growth since its introduction by the British.
