OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES ON THE UTILIZATION OF ICT AMONG TEACHERS IN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY BASIS: FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Abstract

The challenges and opportunities presented by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are unique and rapidly evolving, impacting every corner of the globe. This paper delves into the complex dynamics between these opportunities and challenges within selected districts of the Division of Cagayan de Oro City. This aims to provide a comprehensive description of the respondents' characteristics and assess the extent to which teachers experience both opportunities and challenges in utilizing ICT. This seeks to uncover the significant relationships between these opportunities and challenges, offering insights into how they interplay and influence one another. Additionally, the research tests for significant differences in the respondents' experiences with ICT utilization, shedding light on varying perceptions and experiences among teachers. Through this multifaceted analysis, the paper aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of ICT's impact on education and inform strategies for more effective integration of technology in teaching and learning processes. The respondents were the three hundred five (305) public elementary school teachers in the schools where the study was conducted. It made use of descriptive correlational method research and a questionnaire that is patterned and modified. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and SD were used as well as Pearson Product Moment Correlation (r) to determine the significant relationship between teachers’ opportunities and challenges on the utilization of ICT and their challenges. Moreover T-test and F-test were utilized to test the significant difference in the teacher’s opportunities on the utilization of ICT and their challenges when grouped according to their characteristics. Findings reveal that teachers’ opportunities and challenges in the utilization of ICT are high but their relationship Is not significant except on the internet facilities and access to ICT resources. Indeed, there is a significant difference in the teacher’s opportunities and challenges when grouped according to their characteristics except in sex, teaching experience and grade level taught. In conclusion there is a need for increased investment in technology infrastructure within educational institutions. The shortage not only hinders access to ICT tools but also limits the effect of integrating technology in the teaching and learning process. It is recommended that School Heads and teachers should utilize the Professional Development Plan to integrate gadgets into teaching practice and provide support in overcoming resistance.
