Pudukkottai district is one of the princely states of Tamilnadu which holds rich cultural heritage with Fortresses, Palaces, Temples, Cave Paintings and many other historical monuments. The district was one of the homes of pre-historic man. Many of the villages are of ancient foundation and also referenced often in Tamil Sangam Literature. Porpanaikottai (10.3823° N, 78.8718° E) is a small hamlet located in Veppankudi panchayat of Alangudi Taluk 7 kms west of Pudukkottai town towards the road leading to Alangudi. The approach to this village is 9 km west of Pudukkottai junction on the Pudukkottai - Alangudi road via Kalasakkadu. It is pertinent to mention here that till recently it was assumed that forts, palaces, etc have been destroyed. But the site stands as the living evidence without the demolition of fort wall and the construction made out of mud bricks are present even today
