Title

Chromatography The technique of separation

Abstract

Known as "color writing," chromatography was initially used by Russian scientist Mikhail Tsvet. He continued to use it in the first ten years of the 1900s, mostly for the separation of pigments found in plants, such as carotenes, xanthophylls, and chlorophyll. The technique got its name because these parts are different colors—yellow, orange, and green, respectively. In the 1930s and 1940s, chromatography underwent new developments that made it applicable to a wide range of separation procedures. The work of Richard Laurence Millington Synge and Archer John Porter Martin in the 1940s and 1950s led to significant advancements in the method of chromatography.
