Abstract: Vijayapura, a city comprising of heritage urban open spaces (UOS) is vital for its citizens to enjoy it as a pollution-free environment, an aesthetic legendary city, a series of lung spaces for good health and well-being, parks for relaxation, and vendor-potential economic opportunities. However, as usual, urbanization has caused these UOS to suffer neglect, overcrowding, poor maintenance, lack of facilities and inadequate policy framework and guidelines to upgrade the existing parks and UOS. This study focuses on solutions for the Gagan Mahal Precinct in Vijayapura, Karnataka, using the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-11) Agenda-2030, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative analyses. Out of 93 random samples, 73% noted poor accessibility, 95% reported no access to the surrounding moat, 79% highlighted maintenance issues, and 85% cited inadequate facilities like toilets and drinking water. These findings offer valuable insights for government authorities to enhance UOS and provide insights for future policy frameworks.
