Title

Survey on Image Retrieval of Mixed Fruit Hyperspectral Images

Abstract

Hyperspectral imaging is an advanced emerging imaging technique, which captures information from a wide range of the electromagnetic spectrum, far beyond what the human eye can perceive. Unlike traditional color imaging, which captures three primary colors (red, green, and blue), hyperspectral imaging records data in many narrow, contiguous spectral bands. Each of these bands represents a specific portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, making it possible to closely study how materials emit or reflect light at different wavelengths. Hyperspectral images are three-dimensional data cubes that contain hundreds of images of the same ground object, each taken at a different wavelength of light. The wavelengths range from ultraviolet to microwave. One such application of hyperspectral imaging is its role in mixed fruit image retrieval. Through the utilization of hyperspectral cameras or sensors, detailed images of fruits can be captured, with each pixel containing a wealth of features. These features include not only visual aspects such as texture and color but also properties such as moisture content and chemical composition. By utilizing this information, different types of fruits can be effectively distinguished, a task that was previously challenging with conventional imaging techniques. This paper focuses on a survey of image retrieval (IR) techniques applied to mixed fruit hyperspectral images (HSI). The survey reviews various methodologies and approaches employed to leverage the rich spectral data provided by hyperspectral imaging for accurate and efficient retrieval of mixed fruit images. However, the potential of hyperspectral imaging extends far beyond the retrieval of mixed fruit images.
