Title

“A EFFECTIVENESS OF SELF-INSTRUCTIONAL MODULE ON SELECTED OBSTETRIC DRUGS AMONG STAFF NURSES WORKING IN SELECTED HOSPITALS, AHMEDABAD”

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Pharmacology is the science of drugs. A drug is a chemical substance used either for prevention, to promote health, to diagnose, to alleviate or cure or relief of diseases or for prevention of pregnancy, which is however, not a disease. The aim of the study is to Assess Effectiveness of a Self-instructional module on selected Obstetric drugs among staff nurses working in Selected Hospitals, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The sample of the present study comprised of 50 staff nurses working in Ankur Maternity home and clinic, Ahmedabad. Area wise analysis shows that the Anti – D immunoglobulin area had highest mean percentage (71%), followed by the Tocolytics (58%), Ergot derivatives (51%), General information regarding drugs (47%) and Oxytocin (46.6%). The overall percentage in pretest is 52%. The findings of the results showed that, higher posttest mean percentage found on the aspect of Anti – D immunoglobulin (86%), followed by the General information regarding drugs (83.6%) Ergot derivatives (78.7%), and Oxytocin (72.7%), prostaglandins (68%) and Tocolytics (58%). The overall percentage in posttest is 73%. Findings revealed that the staff nurses had an overall gain in knowledge score with the administration of SIM. The mean posttest knowledge score 40.14(73%) was higher than the mean pre test knowledge score 28(52%) with ‘t’ value 16.7 p< 0.01 levels of significance. It shows that Self-instructional module was effective in increasing the knowledge of staff nurses. Chi-square test was computed in order to find the association between pretest knowledge level and the demographic variables. Demographic variables such as age, professional qualification, total years of experience in OBG units, source of information from the doctors, obstetric books and colleagues. The findings of the study showed that there was association found between the age and pretest knowledge scores. And also there was association found between the professional qualification and total years of experience in OBG units and pretest knowledge scores of the respondents. And there was no association found between the source of information from the booksand colleagues and pretest knowledge scores of the respondents.
