Title

A review on design and analysis of brake pads by using composite materials

Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop brake pads using locally sourced ecological materials, moving away from the traditional use of asbestos, which posses significant health risks. Various brake pad ingredients such as abrasives, fibers, lubricants and fillers were tested to determine their impact on particle emissions. The results highlighted that abrasives and metal fibers emit significantly more harmful particles compared to lubricants and aramid fibers. Additionally, composite materials were examined for their potential to improve the performance of automotive braking systems. This study utilized a pin-on-disc tribometer to analyze the tribological performance and airborne particle emissions, leading to the conclusion that optimizing the ingredients of brake pads can significantly reduce harmful emissions and improve overall performance.
