Title

Effectiveness of height of shear wall stiffening in moment resisting frame-shear wall, dual structural system

Authors

Abstract

This study investigates the seismic Performance of RC moment resisting frame-shear wall dual structural systems using advanced numerical modeling and analysis in ETABS software. The study primary access the variations in height, placement, and configuration of influence the structural stiffness, lateral load resistance, inter-story drifts, and overall seismic response. Six distinct structural models are analyzed ranging from full masonry infill to different configurations of shear walls at corners, sides, and side+core, corner+core positions, all under seismic Zone V conditions. Response Spectrum Analysis(RSA) is employed to simulate seismic events, providing insights into displacement, drift, and time periods across different building heights (5 to 25 stories). Comparative analysis of these models reveals are carried out and found that strategically placed shear walls significantly enhance structural performance by reducing displacements and drifts. The findings highlight the importance of the shear wall configuration in mitigating seismic vulnerabilities, thereby contributing to the enhancement of dual structural systems in earthquake-prone regions.
