This research explores into the complex journey of Meghalaya's Garo textile industry, focusing on the process and significance of obtaining Geographical Indication (GI) registration. By exploring the historical, cultural, and economic dimensions, the study aims to understand how the transition "From Loom to Legacy" develops. Through a combination of doctrinal analysis and examination of official documents, the research sheds light on the challenges, successes, and implications of GI registration for Garo weavers and their communities. Furthermore, it seeks to highlight the broader implications of GI registration in terms of cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and sustainable development. Ultimately, this investigation contributes to the discourse on the intersection of traditional craftsmanship, intellectual property rights, and heritage conservation in the context of Meghalaya's Garo textile industry.
