Title

Comparative Study of Selenium and Nanoselenium (SeNPs) on Germination Performance of Glycine max(L.) Merr.

Abstract

Application of green selenium nanoparticles in agriculture proven to be of great advantages as they show significant antioxidant and antimicrobial role in plant life as well as performs better growth promoting activities as compared to Selenium. Hence the current study was intended to investigate the comparative effect of Se and nanoselenium on germination of Glycine max (L.) Merr. Noteworthy seed germination was noticed by Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) over control and all the treatments of Selenium. In particular 5 and 10 ppm concentrations of SeNPs showed significant germination whereas declined rate of seed germination was found with the higher concentration of both the Selenium and SeNPs. Similarly positive influence of SeNPs was found on the root and shoot length as well as fresh and dry weight of seedlings than the control and selenium treatments. The results revealed the toxicity of selenium in Soybean. These findings clearly indicated better performance of low concentrations of SeNPs on seed germination of Soybean.
