Rehabilitation can play a big role in health promotion, maintenance, and prevention across an individual's entire lifespan. Modern concepts of nursing significantly changed the concept of rehabilitation, in supporting patients to independently and actively perform self-care. Rehabilitation nurse coordinates a holistic approach to meeting patient's medical, vocational, educational, and environmental needs. The aim of vascular rehabilitation is to enhance and minimize the cardiovascular risk, reduce the disability and hence optimize and promote active and healthy lifestyle changes, and to eventually integrate those core components as healthy habits after rehabilitation is complete. It is a complex, inter-professional intervention aimed to improve physical reconditioning and risk factor modification. A trained and motivated patient with peripheral vascular disease has a chance to improve both the life quality and expectancy through vascular rehabilitation program.
