Title

Industrial employee training and onboarding application software UI design for HMDs using Assisted Reality technology and Voice User Interface

Authors

Abstract

Numerous divisions in the industrial sector are facing significant challenges like increasing product demands, aging workforce, and productivity boost, prompting significant changes in operations and mass product customization. These changes often involve updating infrastructure to incorporate cyber-physical systems and smart factories (also known as Industry 4.0), impacting both business models and processes. Consequently, industrial workers must adapt to this evolving infrastructure, necessitating an examination of how to support them in their day-to-day tasks within the modified environment. Smart glasses emerge as a promising alternative for human-computer interface between cyber-physical systems and factory workers, offering hands-free assistance. Three of the most often necessary Industrial Assisted Reality (IaR)-enabled applications are training, onboarding and assistance, as these can greatly support, optimize, and facilitate production and assembly processes in industrial contexts. To help future developers produce IaR application software that are similar, analysis and design of such an application are thoroughly detailed. The IaR application uses Assisted Reality technology (ASR or aR) and Voice User Interface (VUI), which is based on wearable technology like smart glasses, and can support and direct industrial frontline workers while they are undergoing training and onboarding. With the help of the designed industrial employee training and onboarding application software, newly hired and inexperienced employees gain the capability to undertake medium-to highly difficult maintenance tasks that were previously beyond their reach. Moreover, technicians at the machines can initiate voice or video communications with internal or external experts using aR Remote Service System, facilitating real-time support and troubleshooting.
