The criminal justice system in India is an intricate framework designed to ensure justice by investigating crimes, prosecuting offenders, and delivering fair judgments. Forensic science plays a pivotal role in enhancing the accuracy and reliability of investigations and legal processes. This article explores the evolution of forensic science in India, highlighting key forensic techniques such as fingerprinting, ballistics, DNA profiling, and toxicology. It discusses the role of forensic science in criminal investigations, including its importance in crime scene analysis, evidence evaluation, and linking suspects to crimes. Despite its significance, forensic science in India faces challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, a shortage of trained experts, and delays in forensic testing. The article proposes suggestions for improving forensic science in the Indian criminal justice system, including the need for better infrastructure, enhanced training, and legal reforms. By addressing these challenges, forensic science can play a more effective role in delivering timely and accurate justice in India.
