Title

A Study of the Status of Education in Tribal Communities with special reference to Khargone District, Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

Education plays a crucial role in the advancement and development of a nation. Its importance has grown significantly in modern society. In ancient times, education was restricted to certain elite classes, resulting in marginalized communities being deprived of education and lagging behind in development. The present era is characterized by science and technology, with education serving as the cornerstone of the economy. While education is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Indian Constitution to all individuals, many marginalized communities still struggle to access it, leading to significantly lower educational attainment compared to other social groups. The lack of education poses numerous challenges for tribal communities in their development. Efforts by the government are ongoing to educate and integrate them into the mainstream society. This research paper focuses on the status of education among tribal communities in Madhya Pradesh and specifically in the Khargone district. According to the 2011 Census, 8.6% of India's population belongs to tribal communities, with 89.97% residing in rural areas and 10.03% in urban areas. In Madhya Pradesh, 21.08% of the total population belongs to tribal communities, while in Khargone district, 39% of the population is from scheduled tribes. This study employs primary and secondary data to examine the educational situation of tribal communities.
