Title

THE ROLE OF AYURVEDIC CONSERVATIVE MANAGEMENT OF AVASCULAR NECROSIS OF FEMORAL HEAD – A SINGLE CASE CLINICAL STUDY

Abstract

Avascular necrosis (AVN) of bone is a pathological process characterized by death of cellular components of bone, secondary to an interruption of the subchondral blood supply. Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head (AVNFH) poses a significant challenge in conventional medical management, often requiring invasive interventions. This article explores the application of Ayurvedic principles, specifically Panchakarma procedures, as a conservative approach to address AVNFH. Panchakarma, a detoxification and rejuvenation therapy in Ayurveda, offers a unique set of procedures designed to rebalance the body's doshas, eliminate toxins, and promote holistic healing. Present case was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Ayurvedic procedure in the conservative management of AVN of the femoral head. In this present case a 45yr old male was diagnosed with AVN of bilateral hip joint associated with Osteoarthritis of hip, was managed with Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Basti (medicated enema), and Rakthamokshana through Jalookavacharana(Leech therapy),along with the administration of Samana aushadhas(Medicinal Preparations). These procedures aim to alleviate doshic imbalances, enhance blood circulation, and rejuvenate the femoral head by targeting the root cause of the condition. Patient was observed for symptomatic improvements based on signs and symptoms before and after treatment.
