Title

CREATION - In Spiritual and Scientific Perspective

Abstract

Ever since the Cosmos came into existence, the creator has been busy managing the five essential acts of the Cosmos. These are primary acts called Pancha Krtyam, The Five Cosmic Acts. Shivam, the life force, creates, sustains, and destroys every living being, whether we are aware of it or not. This existence, identified as a life force within every living entity, is indeed Shiva. In mercy, he performs the five acts to free each being from the illusory world and unite them with his cosmic wholeness. He is at once the creator who has created the whole cosmos with its wide range of varieties, with perfect order and uniqueness in every being. He is sustaining the life of every entity, being the life force within, as described in the following verses from Thiruvachagam by Manicavasagar. உள்ளமே பற்றிக் கொள்ளும் மருந்து என்றென்றும், உயிரின் உயிராய்த் திகழும் பரஞ்சோதியே! "Ullamē patri koļļum marundu endrenrum, uyirin uyirāi tigazhum parañjyōtiyē!". According to Manicavasagar, Shiva is the eternal light, radiant as the life within every living being. Shiva, when taking the form of Rudra, becomes the destroyer. He also does the acts of Thirobhavam (Concealment) and Anugraham (The Divine Grace). There are Tandavams performed by Lord Shiva that represent each of these cosmic acts. This paper explores the primary cosmic act of creation through a musical composition of Gopala krishna Bharathi, “Natanam Adinar,” followed by a detailed scientific perspective of the Creation.
