Title

Cognitive style and self-esteem as a determinant of academic achievement of secondary students

Abstract

To study the Cognitive style and self-esteem as a determinant of academic achievement of secondary students. Cognitive style and self-esteem significantly influence academic performance in secondary school. Cognitive style pertains to an individual's favored method of processing information, which includes perception, memory, and problem-solving. Every individual have inherent value and merit, and their self-esteem is established upon the belief that they have internalized a core set of essential principles. The research framework examines how cognitive style and self-esteem impact the academic performance of secondary students. The study utilizes a descriptive research approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methodologies for the collection and analysis of data. A survey was done on 120 students using a checklist. The data analysis was conducted using SPSS 22.0, including statistical techniques such as analysis of variance and percentage analysis. The results were presented through graphical visualizations. The results showed that self-esteem and cognitive style were both important predictors, but that cognitive style had a somewhat larger impact.
