Title

The Impact of Ai on India’s cultural and creative industries: decolonisation and diversity

Authors

Abstract

This paper explores the profound impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on India's cultural and creative industries, with a specific focus on its role in promoting decolonization and cultural diversity. By examining how AI can support the preservation of indigenous languages, enhance cultural heritage, and address historical injustices, this study highlights both the potential and challenges of AI in fostering social inclusion and equity. Through semi-structured interviews with key industry stakeholders, the paper identifies emerging opportunities for AI to elevate underrepresented voices and transform traditional artistic forms, while also raising concerns about the risks of reinforcing existing power structures and biases. Ethical considerations surrounding AI's application, including the protection of cultural authenticity and the prevention of digital divides, are discussed. The findings contribute to a growing body of research on the intersection of technology, culture, and society in post-colonial contexts, proposing strategies for the responsible and inclusive use of AI to build a more diverse and equitable future for India's cultural landscape.
