The paper dissects the psychological mechanism of suppressed memories, highlighting the debilitating effects of trauma, including emotional upheaval and dissociative tendencies. This paper delves into the intricate psyche of Leonora Shaw, the protagonist of Ruth Ware’s In a Dark, Dark Wood, examining the profound and enduring impact of past trauma on her present life. Through the lens of trauma theory, the analysis explores Leonora’s decade- long struggle to reconcile with a horrific event from her adolescence.
