The capital markets of the Indian economy have witnessed phenomenal change, with retail investors increasingly coming to the fore apart from FIIs. This paper analyses the impact of the participation of a retail investor on stock market liquidity, stability, and economic resilience in varied stages of FII inflows and outflows. It draws attention to the fact that the government policies in connection with the development of retail engagement have been successful and assesses the duration for which long-term retail participation can be useful in reducing dependence on FIIs during uncertainty in the world context. The analysis has used the data collected for the last two decades. The study has utilized the data from credible sources like SEBI, RBI, stock exchanges, and the financial reports of mutual funds.
