Title

Progressive Collapse Analysis Of RCC Multistorey Building

Abstract

Progressive collapse happens when one or more no of columns in the structure fail which results in the failure of the adjoining structural elements and eventually it leads to the collapse of the structure. This event is dynamic event and trigger cascading effect. Nowadays, the danger of the terrorist attacks is increased which creates blasting effect due to weaponry explosion. Blasting effect cannot be only created because weaponry explosion but sometimes due to gas cylinder explosion, vehicle impact. This study investigates the progressive collapse behavior of multistorey G+4 buildings with square and C-shaped configurations, focusing on structural response to unexpected column removals. Key findings indicate that load redistribution, displacement, moment values, and base shear differ significantly between the two shapes. The C-shaped structure exhibits heightened vulnerability due to its asymmetry, resulting in greater torsional effects, amplified displacements, and moment losses, especially in the y-direction. In contrast, the square structure demonstrates higher resilience, maintaining greater base shear and stability under failure scenarios. These insights emphasize the importance of structural shape in collapse resistance and support enhanced design guidelines for safer, more resilient multistorey buildings.
