Title

DEVELOPMENT OF REGRESSION MODELS FOR SURFACE ROUGHNESS AND HOLE DIAMETRICAL ERROR IN AL 6061 ALUMINIUM ALLOY DRILLING

Abstract

The drilling technique is extensively employed in the automotive and aerospace sectors. However, aluminum and its alloys are essential to the automotive and aerospace sectors, as well as to other fields that require strength, durability, and low weight. In drilling, a high-quality hole is characterized by its precise diametric and smooth surface. Drilling process machining parameters must be optimized for optimum hole quality at an affordable cost. The goal of the current study is to enhance the quality of the holes drilled into the aluminum alloy AL 6061. A drilling experiment using a Taguchi orthogonal array is carried out, and for various combinations of process parameters, such as spindle speed, feed rate, lubricant, and point angle, experimental responses, such as surface roughness and hole diametrical error, are recorded. The MINI TAB statistical program is used in the proposed work to create regression models for surface roughness and hole diametrical error in terms of process parameters. These models are employed to investigate hole diametrical error and surface roughness for various process parameters.

Key Words

MINI TAB, regression models, drilling, and Taguchi.
