Title

Multifaceted Role of Metal Complexes: Biological Significance, Properties, and Activity

Abstract

Abstract: Metal complexes have been a great enthusiasm surrounding metal complexes due to their diverse biological activity and potential for medical applications. The present review article deals with the biological significance of metal complexes in medicinal prospective, antimicrobial, and antioxidant studies.Various transition metals that were chosen for the preparation process were used to form different metal complexes.Multiple analytical and spectroscopic methods are used for characterising these metal complexes. The review also describes the role of these metal-based complexes in biological systems (viz., oxidative cleavage of DNA, antibacterial and antifungal activity, and antioxidant activity). Significantly,Compared to free ligands, metal complexes have been found to be more active. and they can act as potential drug candidates. Moreover, recent developments reported on SAR of these metal-based complexes, including their binding orientation, stereochemistry, and thermodynamic stability in physiological conditions, have also been summarized in this review. Besides the analysis of the state of the art, we will also debate future trends and possible positive effects of metal complexes in medicine. We will discuss their application in cancer treatment, microbial infections, as well as diseases associated with oxidative stress. This review will finish with a perspective calling for more studies to improve the design and application of metal complexes that have the potential to revolutionize treatment but also our life quality.
