Title

ASSESSMENT OF RADIONUCLIDES IN VEGETABLES, IN THE KADAPA REGION, INDIA BY USING INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA OPTICAL EMISSION SPECTROMETRY (ICP-OES)

Abstract

The presence of radionuclides in vegetables raises serious issues about food safety and public health. Exposure to radionuclides from vegetable consumption can have negative health impacts, including an increased risk of cancer and other radiation-related disorders. This work shows the concentration of radionuclides like U-238, Th-232, Ra-228, and Po-210 in vegetables at three different regions such as Thummalapalli, Besthavaripalli and Mabbuchintalapalli near the Uranium Corporation Limited, Kadapa District, and Andhra Pradesh, India. However, the concentration values of the above radionuclides was determined in different vegetables such as Lycopercicum, Abelmoschus Esculantus, Solanum melangina, Moringa, Trichosanthus, Momordica Charancia and Lagenaria Siceraria by using coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. Overall, the higher concentrations of radionuclides was observed in Moringa (Drumstick) compared to remaining vegetables. As well as, the physico-chemical characteristics such as pH, Electrical Conductivity, TDS, Organic carbon, Phosphorus P (%), and Potassium K (%) was determined in soil.
