Title

International Relation Promotion And Gender Equality A Case Of Un Women Rwanda

Abstract

Abstract: The gender equality is a current global concern embraced by many, seen as a crucial means to enable women to actively contribute to the socio-economic and political dimensions of national, district, and community development. The gender equality in societal functions, particularly the engagement in economic and political spheres, has garnered attention from diverse entities such as governments, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and individuals on a global scale. The research aimed at examining the international relation promotion and gender equality policies focusing on UN Women Rwanda. The study adopted a descriptive research design, emphasizing on three (3) specific objectives including to assess the Impact of Bilateral and Multilateral Agreements on Gender Equality Initiatives. to Assess the Role of Foreign Aid and Support in Advancing Gender Equality Programs and to Examine the Effectiveness of Collaborative Projects and Partnerships in Promoting Gender Equality. Both quantitative and qualitative methods utilized, incorporating individual analysis of mean and standard deviation for independent and dependent variables. To select the sample population and the individuals for data collection, a stratified and simple random sampling approach was used. The researcher used simple random sampling method to select respondents from the various departments after stratifying the population. The study targeted employees, specifically top, middle and operation staff at UN Women Rwanda, with a total population of 41 possible respondents. Primary data collected through structured questionnaires on 5-point Likert scale, organized in Excel spreadsheets, and analyzed using SPSS version 27. The analysis involved descriptive and inferential statistics. The research findings reveal a balanced gender distribution among participants, indicating that both males and females play an essential role in advancing international relations and gender equality. The analysis indicates a strong impact of international relation promotion on gender equality, particularly through bilateral and multilateral agreements, though challenges and weaknesses in these agreements are noted. Foreign aid and support show a significant impact on gender equality programs, but issues such as transparency and sustainability highlight areas for improvement. Collaborative projects and partnerships also seen to effectively contribute to capacity building and positive outcomes for gender equality, despite some weaknesses in budget allocation and neutral perceptions of challenges. The R-squared coefficient calculated for the impact of all three independent variables on gender equality within UN Women was 0.552. This indicates that the variables include international relation promotion—specifically Bilateral and Multilateral Agreements, Foreign Aid and Support, and Collaborative Projects and Partnerships—account for 55.2% of the variation in gender equality. To enhance the effectiveness of gender equality initiatives, it is crucial to address the weaknesses identified in bilateral and multilateral agreements. Improving the implementation and monitoring processes of these agreements will ensure they better contribute to gender equality.
