Title

SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN PRACTICES AND PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION: A CASE OF RWANDA MEDICAL SUPPLY

Abstract

This study examined influence of sustainable supply chain practices and performance of public healthcare organization. Specifically, the study was guided by the supply chain planning practices, purchasing chain management, logistics, and warehouse and inventory management practices. The study relied on theory of performance measurement a structured approach to evaluating and monitoring organizational performance. The researcher used a descriptive and correlational research design with a quantitative approach. This study targeted 30 staff of Rwanda Medical Supply to select the respondents of the study. The sample size was census 30 key informants. The data collection procedure was done through questionnaire and interview Data was collected by using a self-administered structured questionnaire and by the analysis of the second source Data from RMS supply chain Reports and in Excel and visualization with Tableau. Descriptive analysis of frequency, percentage and hypothesis testing to assess the statistical influence between supply practices and the performance of RMS were used. From 42.8% were strongly agreed. The results demonstrated the assessing customer view on services, Information felt that stimulating customers’ ability to find out assistance where, 40.8 were strongly agreed. It showed that the project planning structure was statistically significant to reduction in Expire rate (b=.450, p-value=0.000). Results shown that delivering materials on time was influencing reduction in expire rate (b=.671, p-value=0.000. Therefore, results shown that criterion for selecting suppliers is inflicting affecting reduction in expire rate (b=0.280, p-value=.001).Results showed that Rwanda Medical Supply workers respect adequate rules and regulations for the preparation of effective procurement planning, 40.1% strongly agree. Results showed Rwanda Medical Supply procurement plans have expected budget of the requirement, 55.9% show a strong agreement. Results showed Rwanda Medical Supply has skilled procurement personnel, 38.2% were strongly agreed, A strong relationship was established between procurement planning and reduction of SCM waste (r=0.424**, p-value=0.000), procurement planning and reduction in expire rate (0.740**.p-value=0.000), procurement planning and timely delivery of services (0.0 484 * *, p-value =0.000). Results showed were warehousing actions were crucial to receive products, 56.6% strongly agreed. Results showed the Rwanda Medical Supply warehousing workers following up products in due date, 74.3% indicate strongly agreement. The study recommended that for more information from respondents. The study recommended for supplier selection policies should be improved in their transportation operations. Further studies should investigate in details influence of warehouse managers selection have to the compliance or transportation operations in public sector organizations.
