Title

Comparative Study To Assess The Level Of Distress Among Male And Female Hypertensive Patients Attending Outpatient Department Of Selected Community Health Center

Abstract

This study entitled “Comparative study to assess the level of distress among male and female hypertensive patients attending OPD of selected Community Health Center, Gonda” Aims: The objectives are to assess the level of distress among male and female hypertensive patients, to compare the level of distress among male and female hypertensive patients, to associate finding with selected demographic variables. Design and setting: Comparative descriptive approach was adopted. Total of 60 subjects were selected for this study through non-probability purposive sampling technique. A structured Distress Rating Scale was prepared and it consists of 54 items which include various dimensions. Instrument administered for data collection was pre-validated. Results: This study results revealed that, 33% of males and 27% of females were having severe distress due to hypertension. The chi-square values showed that there is a significant association between male distress level with age, educational status and occupation and also women’s distress level was associated with socio demographic variables like education, religion and occupation. Conclusion: Findings of the study explained that there is a need of educational intervention and health coping mechanism, that it decreases distress experienced by such individual.
