Bhaishajya Kalpana is a branch of Ayurved which deals with the preparation of medicines. Ayurved specifies three types of Chikitsa (Treatment), namely Antahparimarjan, Bahirparimarjan and Shastra Pranidhan Chikitsa. The Bahirparimarjan Chikitsa is widely used for treatment of disorders related to skin. It is widely used for the purpose of Twak Vikara, Vrana Shodhana and Vrana Ropana. Tutthakadya Malahara is one such preparation mentioned in the classical text of Rasatarangini by Acharya Shri Sadananda Sharma. It mentions to have properties like Puyanissarak (Pus Removal), Vrana Shodhana Param (Excellent Wound Cleansing Activity) and Vividha Vrana Nashana (Wound-healing). It is important to ensure the establishment of standard method of preparation for such formulations to maintain their authenticity and quality, hence this study has been undertaken to study the physico-chemical properties of Tutthakadya Malahara which was prepared by the traditional method as mentioned in the text of Rasatarangini.
