Title

STUDIES ON DEGRADATION OF TEXTILE DYES USING ADVANCED OXIDATION PROCESSES

Abstract

The textile sector significantly contributes to environmental pollution, primarily due to the release of wastewater containing various organic dyes and pollutants. Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) have been recognized as effective methods for the degradation of contaminants in textile wastewater. This study investigates the application of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zinc oxide (ZnO) as catalysts within AOPs for the treatment of textile effluent. The effectiveness of AOPs in degrading organic pollutants and eliminating color will be evaluated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) will be employed to characterize the crystal structure and phase composition of the catalysts. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) will be utilized to analyze the morphology and particle size of the catalysts. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) will be applied to examine the properties and interactions between the contaminants and the catalysts. Finally, a UV spectrometer will be used to measure the absorbance of contaminants at specific wavelengths to monitor their degradation. The integration of these methodologies will provide a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of AOPs in treating textile wastewater. The data obtained from FTIR, UV, SEM, and XRD analyses will elucidate the roles of ZnO and TiO2 catalysts in color removal and pollutant degradation, thereby enhancing the potential for the practical application of AOPs in the treatment of wastewater from the textile industry.
