A Study on the Role of Employee Engagement Towards Fostering Organisation Work Culture in Tourism Industry

Abstract

Human Resource is regarded as the backbone of an organisation. It is the main framework on which the organisation exists and grows in long run. In this era of globalisation and liberalisation in order to have a competitive advantage over the competitors, it has become imperative for organisations to adapt innovative human resource practises. These best practises not only helps in retaining the best talents but also in organisational survival. Employee Engagement is the buzzword when it comes to developing an effective work culture today. Through inclusion of employee engagement in the work culture, an organisation cannot only align employees with their job; organization increases their productivity as well as profitability. Hospitality Industry is, one of the oldest people oriented trade endeavours in the world. In present condition Indian hospitality industry is growing rapidly, generating mass scale employment to the nation. Modern man today has developed an innate bent towards travel as an escapade from the stressful life. Since ages, travel has been developed for business, health, social, and cultural reasons. It is an important element of the tourism industry. The hospitality industry a part of a broader service industry where people create the service experience with specific skills to generate revenue. The main objective of this paper is to define the term employee engagement in milieu of Indian hospitality industry and how effective it is, as a strategy for retaining the best talents and hence sustaining an organisation in the present competitive environment. Discussion of this paper is related with concept of employee engagement and its role developing an effective work culture to increase employee performance and productivity in order to achieve the organization goals and objectives.
