Title

EXPLORING GREEN BANKING PRACTICES: A PATHWAY TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FOR A GREENER TOMORROW

Abstract

The emergence of green banking reflects financial organizations' increasing dedication to environmental preservation and sustainable development. Green banking encourages environmentally favorable behaviors like using renewable energy, lowering carbon emissions, and providing funds for sustainable projects. This study explores the green banking programs of Indian public, private, and specialty banks, emphasizing their endeavors to mitigate environmental effects through a range of measures such as providing green loans, encouraging electric automobiles, and funding solar installations. Smaller banks are progressively adopting complete sustainability measures, while major banks like State Bank of India, Union Bank of India, and ICICI Bank have already done so. Notwithstanding these initiatives, obstacles such as lack of infrastructure and technological constraints prevent widespread use. The significance of integrating climate risk considerations into financial strategy and the possibility of green banking to promote long-term growth are covered in the study. It also highlights how important financial institutions are to helping India reach its renewable energy and net-zero emissions goals by 2070. The report ends with suggestions for improving green banking practices through sustainable regulatory frameworks, technology investments, and consumer awareness.
