Title

A RANDOMISED COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFICACY OF MULAKA TAILA MATRA BASTI AND SHIVA GUGGULU OVER SAHACHARA TAILA MATRA BASTI AND RASNA GUGGULU IN THE MANAGEMENT OF GRIDHRASI (SCIATICA)

Abstract

Gridhrasi is enumerated as one among the Vata nanatmaja vyadhi. It is correlated with disease Sciatica in modem parlance. Most commonly encountered factors for the disease are bad posture, irregular and unwholesome dietary habits, travelling in jerky vehicles etc. It is having a prevalence of 40 % in the population the impact of which is staggering on society. In spite of tremendous advancements in field of modern medicine, the management of Sciatica in contemporary science is still limited and has a less favorable outcome and consumes more health resources.The Ayurvedic classics deal the disease with various therapeutic measures, amongst which Basti therapy was taken for Clinical trial. The therapeutic effect of Matra basti in Gridhrasi is known by various studies conducted so far. Materials and Methods: It is a comparative clinical study. In this, 40 patients were taken for the study and divided into two different groups of 20 patients in each. The subjective and objective parameters were observed before, after treatment and after follow up and were recorded in the case Proforma of Gridhrasi. Group A- Mulaka taila matrabasti for 7days followed by Shiva guggulu.Group B- Sahachara taila matrabasti for 7days followed by Rasna guggulu. Results: Group A showed Excellent response in 30%, Good response in 45%, Moderate response in 20% and Poor response in 05% of patients. Group B showed Excellent response in 20%, Good response in 35%, Moderate response in 35% and Poor response in 10% of patients.Conclusion: Stastically the overall response of the treatment was significant in both the groups. In case symptom stambha group A is highly significant compared to group B.
