This paper examines the sentiments of an Anglo-Indian woman in post-colonial India through the character of Susanna in Susanna’s Seven Husbands and 7 Khoon Maaf. Though the novella and its movie adaptation are mostly focused on the feminist perspective, it is also interesting to observe that there is this underlying theme of complexities involved in everyday life of Anglo-Indian women in post-colonial India. The novella and the movie encapsulate how the erstwhile entitled Anglo-Indian women struggle to locate themselves in the new world. It is argued that the struggle is not because of losing their entitlement or change in the power structure in the post-colonial world, instead, the very power structure that they had lived through until the colonies came to be ceased has proved to be the main reason for their struggle. That is to say, entitlement and power are believed to be the means to lead a happy life i.e. stability be it social or political, economic well-being, independence, agency, identity, free will, etc. However, it is observed that this very entitlement is the source of all the struggles in the later part of their lives leading to a constant search for locating themselves in Post-colonial India.
