Abstract

A Study was conducted to assess the Effectiveness of an Awareness Programme among Teacher Trainees regarding Knowledge about Early Identification of Children with Learning Disabilities. The study's objectives were to assess teacher trainees' knowledge regarding early identification of children with learning disabilities and evaluate the effectiveness of the awareness programme on their level of knowledge regarding early identification of children with learning disabilities. A quantitative research approach and one-group pretest post-test research design was used to accomplish the stated objectives of the study. After obtaining the ethical permissions, data collection was done using a Self-structured knowledge questionnaire. A total of 70 teacher trainees studying in selected college of Delhi were selected after getting their consent using simple random sampling. The data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics. The pre-test study results showed that none of the subjects had good knowledge, 26(37%) had average knowledge and 44(63%) had poor knowledge regarding Early Identification of Learning Disabilities. However, after the administration of the structured Awareness Programme majority of the teacher trainee i.e. 46(66%) subjects had good knowledge, 24(37%) had average knowledge and none had poor knowledge regarding Early Identification of Learning Disabilities. The mean pretest knowledge score of the study subjects was lower than the mean post-test knowledge score with a mean difference of 9.91. The calcuated Z-value of 18.77 was greater than the table value of 1.96 at p = 0.05 level of significance. Hence, the study results concluded that the structured Awareness programme on Early Identification of Learning Disabilities among children was effective in improving the knowledge of the teacher trainees.
