Elevators play a critical role in modern buildings, but inefficient operation can lead to longer wait times, energy wastage, and reduced user satisfaction. Smart elevator systems that use artificial intelligence (AI) to predict traffic patterns and optimize elevator operations offer a promising solution to these challenges. This review paper discusses the application of AI for traffic prediction in elevator systems, exploring how machine learning models, time-series analysis, and optimization algorithms like reinforcement learning can reduce wait times and energy consumption. We review key studies and innovations in this field, identify gaps in existing research, and propose future directions for developing more efficient and user-friendly elevator systems.
