The use of lateritic soils in road construction is of obvious interest in tropical countries, as in the Democratic Republic of Congo, because of their abundance. This makes them economically interesting even if their mechanical performances are mostly variable and sometimes mediocre. The study concludes that the lateritic soil samples from MUSOMPO have relatively similar properties so that they can not be clearly distinguished by statistical analysis. The results of the granulometric tests have shown that they are lateritic gravels. Geotechnical tests prove that this material is of fairly good quality in accordance with road construction standards. Only lift characteristics (optimal dry density and CBR) appear to be slightly weak for basecoats. This during this soil is suitable for foundation layers. It can be used natural or improved with cement, lime or bitumen to enhance its bearing capacity. Also, it requires that it be stabilized for its implementation as a base layer or foundation layer.
