Pichu, a treatment modality which is done by placing a cotton cloth dipped in warm oil at the affected part. Janupichu is practiced among the Ayurveda practitioners as an effective remedy for the Janusandhigata Vata. Wax bath is a thermal modality of Physical therapy, which comes under the Rehabilitation programme. It is done by heating Paraffin wax and applying it on the knee until a thick coat of wax sets on skin, later it is removed. Wax therapy helps in relieving Pain, stiffness and muscle spasm in arthritis. Sandhigata Vata is one among the most common Vatavyadhi. When vitiated Vata localizes on Janu Sandhi, it causes Janusandhigata Vata. Osteoarthritis of knee joint is a common progressive joint disease and is characterized by chronic pain and functional disability. Because of the similarity in signs and symptoms, Osteoarthritis can be correlated with the Janusandhigata Vata in Ayurveda. As Vata is predominantly vitiated, Snehana and Swedana are the effective treatment to treat vitiated Vata Dosha.
